Despite my best attempts, I haven’t been able to clone myself. So last week, I took a gamble on oDesk.com and outsourced a few tasks to programmers in Belarus & Manilla. The results were fine but the way oDesk treat their providers is not.
oDesk software monitors keyboard activity and takes periodic screen captures while the provider is working - something which to me is an extreme act of privacy invasion, even though I am the one paying for the work to be done. A simple daily email update of what has/hasn’t been accomplished seems more appropriate to me…
I wonder how many contractors outside the developing nations would be prepared to put up with this type of monitoring. I know I wouldn’t.
